Burgalicious. The hamburgers are named after metal bands, and the waitresses are highly tattooed. We had the Kuma and the Judas Priest. If heaven is half as good a medium rare Kuma Burger, I will be one pleased dead dude. It consists of a half pound of ground chuck, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. This burger is not for the cholesterol conscious. The egg is served sunny-side up so the yolk breaks when you take the first bite. It is incredibly juicy and delicious. I ordred the fries, and Kim got the pub chips. The chips are very thin, crisp, and well seasoned. The fries were a little on the soft, soggy side, but they were still very good due to the seasoning. The Judas Priest includes bacon, blue cheese, walnuts, apple, and dried cranberries. Do yourself a favor and skip the tomato on the Judas Priest. It overpowered the other flavors. All burgers are served with a soft, chewy pretzel roll which was highly complementary. It is slighly sweet and quiet good even on its own. It held up well with the juiceness of the Kuma, unlike other buns I have encountered. The beer list is sizable, and PBR bottles are only $2.50. Other beers started at $4-- standard for a Chicago bar. We sat in the beer garden in the rear of the restaurant. It was quiet but dark. After sunset, our waitress brought out a candle, but it barely illuminated our massive sandwiches. For one of the best burgers in Chicago, Kuma's Corner is a winner.

We have been here several times and have greatly enjoyed it. The atmosphere and food are both exceptional.  The steak, of course, is a great choice. It is cooked to perfection and the sauces that several of the dishes come with are wonderful.  We also enjoy the bread, chopped salad as well as the ribs! This is a great place to take guests as well as a date. Wonderful! Highly recommended.

The decor and ambiance here is absolutely wonderful.  The French influences in the art and decor are beautiful.  Outdoor dining is available as well. The wait staff is friendly and very helpful. Mondays and Wednesdays are the best days to go. Their special is a $25 prix-fixe dinner that includes any appetizer, entree and dessert. We started out with the special appetizers for the evening. Mine was a double soup of Tomato and Artichoke. The soup was split down the middle which makes for a great presentation. It also had GREAT flavor.  We also tried the Couscous with scallops appetizer which was also quite good.  Our entrees were the Marche Ribeye and Grilled Quail.  The ribeye was juicy and cooked to perfection. The mustard dipping sauce brought the flavors out magnificently.  The quail was also cooked quite well and was stuffed with peas and wild rice. Both dishes were quite amazing.  For desert we had the flourless chocolate cake and the profiteroles. The cake was quite good, but the mint ice cream that accompanied it had a strong leaf or grassy taste.  The profiteroles were GREAT with a wonderful vanilla ice cream in the center and chocolate sauce topping. We had a wonderful experience here and cannot wait to return and try more of the menu! Highly recommended.

Cafe Absinthe

Price: $$$ - $$$$
Cuisine: French
Rating: 4 K's
Location: 1958 W North Ave,   Chicago 60622 (entrance in back)
Phone: 773-278-4488

The entrance to this restaurant is around the back in the parking lot. So, don't be discouraged if you walk into the bar at the front entrance. Keep going and you'll find the dining area.  The decor is wonderful here and gives a great feel to the place.  The service was also very friendly. They do not serve ice tea, but when I asked for it, the waiter gratefully made me some using a black tea selection from their hot teas.  It was very nice of him.  We started out with the Black Wing Ostrich Fillet appetizer. It was quite good and great to share between two people. The roasted chicken sauce that it is served with is very good.  For the main course, we tried the Herb Marinated Lamb Rack and Crispy Mallard Duck Beans. Both were pretty good and not overcooked. The duck came with several very good duck confit ravioli and the same roasted chicken sauce.  The lamb was very tender in a lamb jus sauce.  It was a big pricey, but worth it!

The decor here is beautiful, however, the quality is lacking.  We went here on a night when they also had a special that included an appetizer, entree and dessert for each person.  The appetizers weren't memorable.  For dinner, we went with the two house specialties, the Duck trio and the Filet Mignon.  Neither were impressive. They also charged us an unusually high corking fee for our bottle of wine that we brought. Overall, we were highly unimpressed with the mediocre food. Not recommended.
